Move over, Patrick Watson — it’s Dan Snaith’s crown now. The annual Polaris Music Prize, honoring Canada’s best album as chosen by a panel of 170 music insiders, has gone to Dan Snaith’s great Andorra LP. Congrats (and $20,000) to him, and better luck next time list of everybody else.

Two hours traffic deserved it
safe choice, though infinitely better than last year’s joke of a selection.
agree, patrick watson was definitely a surprise. I enjoyed Andorra, but one band that continues to get overlooked on the international stage is Wintersleep. They have written three beautiful records and get no press from American media. I don’t know if they even made the shortlist. I can understand they don’t have the “artistic merit” of Mr. Snaith, but awesome rock songs should count for something.
why doesn’t the polaris music prize, a national award for canadian musicians, receive more attention than three lines in the globe & mail? its tragic in my opinion.
on the topic of caribou’s nomination and selection; i’m stoked for him! his music is fantastic, his live performances leave you reeling from surging percussion attacks and soaring electro keyboard and guitar melodies…every canadian artist deserves our support and i’m glad caribou was highlighted this year.
Caribou’s album was decent and prob the most deserving considering the mediocre finalists up for the prize
its a shame that the cluless voter/jury overlooked brilliant albums by Wintersleep, Sunset Rubdown and Black Mountain
why is it that these brilliant local bands cant even get proper exposure within Canada??? and fluff like the polaris finalists get all the publicity???
