Earlier this week Animal Collective’s website started spitting up cryptic things about something called Merriweather Post Pavilion, which diligent Animal scout Gorilla Vs. Bear was quick to speculate was the title of a new LP from the band due in January. Last night I clicked on the page’s Merriweather Post Pavilion lettering and a video launched with someone’s distorted voice saying “tracklisting.” So arty. Don’t know whose voice it was, but as you can (sorta) tell from that time-released new band photo, it definitely wasn’t Deakin because that guy still appears to be on band vacation. So MPP‘s 11 songs according to David, Noah, and Brian:

01 “In The Flowers”
02 “My Girls”
03 “Also Frightened”
04 “Summertime Clothes”
05 “Daily Routine”
06 “Bluish”
07 “Guys Eyes”
08 “Taste
09 “Lion In A Coma
10 “No More Runnin”
11 “Brother Sport

Here’s what the tracklist looks like in their own paw-tracks:

    This should be very good.

2009 is already going to be insane because of this AND the new Grizzly Bear.

  7. Agreed, Evan, those are the two I’m most excited about too.
Brother Sport is such a great song. I’m interested to see if Avey’s screaming fit in the middle of the live performances we’ve seen of the song is just a placeholder for something else they were working on. I hope so, the song could be much better with something else there.

  8. Funny. My high school graduation was held at Merriweather.

I hope “In the Flowers” is the song formerly known as “Dancer.” This is gonna be great, I’m really glad “No More Runnin” made it.

For the record, they are from outside of Baltimore, and not Boston.

Does anybody know if Animal Collective ever did a version of “Doggy” where you can actually understand the words?

there is one live version of Doggy from a ´BBC Session 2007´ where you can hear the words better, i think if you search for it you can probably find it? i forget where i got mine!

Uhh…Animal Collective are from Baltimore. Hence the name Merriweather Post Pavilion (Merriweather is an outdoor amphitheater in my hometown of Columbia, MD about 20 minutes outside Baltimore). Panda Bear and Geologist I think went to Boston-area universities while Deacon and Avey Tare went to NYU. Just to clarify :)

P.S.- “Bluish” is by far my favorite track on the album. Very whimsical and dreamy.
