There was no horse this time. Nary an orgy or fife-playing satyr. An acoustic in-store may not offer the same baroque pageantry as Friday’s set at Roseland, but last night’s of Montreal Rough Trade East performance did give attendees a close-up listen to — wait — the band’s songs. Yes, remove the red body paint and gold short shorts and you not only have a nude Kevin Barnes, you also realize (again) that Skeletal Lamping‘s songwriting can be just as ambitious as oM’s visual cluster-fuck. (Minus the possible cruelty to animals.) Watch the nubile miscreants.

Of Montreal Releases ‘Paralytic Stalks,’ A New Album
Too much information, verbal and sonic, is standard practice for Kevin Barnes, the songwriter and studio obsessive behind Of Montreal. His lyrics pile on the polysyllables and metaphors: “Love is not a debtor’s prison, you don’t have to ...
Of Montreal’s psychedelic pop pushes listener
Of Montreal, the brainchild of Ohio native Kevin Barnes, has forged major artistic ground on its eleventh album, Paralytic Stalks, departing from the pop song format, funk influence and erotic content that has become synonymous with the band.

Dam, can’t a band try to do a little theatrics or something? Just stand there playing, how pathetic…

I figured I go ahead and start the complain train.

  2. Why don’t you post their Florida shows with the Fiery Furnaces? You forgot to do it the last time you posted their itinerary too.

there’s some of us who find the music entertaining and require no “theatrics”

I think whistle was being sarcastic in his comment about the lack of “theatrics”

      Thanks, Hoooot!

Yes, I was referencing the complaints all those readers had about the theatrics featured in recent posts.
