It’s been a while since we’ve written about the Dears. The Montreal band’s about to release their fourth full-length Missiles — the first since 2006′s Gang Of Losers — but there are only two members left. Reportedly, creative differences got the best of the crew during the recording process, so we’re left with vocalist/songwriter Murray Lightburn and keyboardist/backing vocalist Natalia Yanchak to pilot the ship. The apocalyptic Anton Josef-directed video for lead track “Money Babies” is fitting in that sense (i.e. the aftermath of the band’s implosion), but the repetition of “our money is elastic,” along with images of burning money, poverty, and general tension, fit more generally with the current economic crisis. One thing to note: Hipsters somehow managed to survive End Times with their acoustic guitar in perfect condition.

The lucky wandering Saint figure gets to go to suburbia.

Missiles is out 10/20 via Dangerbird. They’re on tour, so Murray and Natalia must have a new supporting cast:

Freedom from the ability to worry about money. What a concept.

  3. I actually think The Dears are back to their best with this latest release. Great new album.

Plus, I like how simple their new album cover is.

the new album is incredible. saw them twice on this new tour with the new members(Laura and Lisa from Pony Up, Chris from Land of Talk, Yann from Kill the Lights, and Jason Kent). Both great shows where they played mostly new songs and lots of no cities left. Very few Gang of Losers songs. The new album is incredibly bluesy and back to their more built up orchestral sound. go see them.
