If for some crazy reason you didn’t watch Desperate Housewives last night, you missed Tokyo Police Club’s prime time network television debut. The Canadian indie rock group has a friend who writes for ABC’s Sunday night drama and namechecked the band in a script a few weeks back. Last night’s episode featured TPC as Coldsplash, a hot local act competing against the men of Wisteria Lane in a Battle of the Bands. According to The Canadian Press, two band members shot speaking lines, but I think they got cut. (I can’t be sure because I watched the episode in 4x fast forward.) (
Spoiler alert: Later in the episode we learn Blue Odyssey’s drummer set the fire to destroy evidence that he strangled a man backstage. Not Dave Monks, but that would have been funny.
Elephant Shell is out now on Saddle Creek.

Scriptwriter friend: “I know these guys, they have a band, Tokyo Police Club, and I think we could use them on the show.”
ABC: “I think you may be on to something, what did you say their name was again?”
Scriptwriter friend: “Tokyo Polic – ”
ABC: “Stop right there! How about we call them ‘Coldsplash’ instead?!”
Scriptwriter friend: “Uhhh”
ABC: “It’ll work. You know Coldplay, right? It’s a lot like that – Coldsplash!”
That show… looks so bad.
Though, I am jealous. I want to meet Dale Cooper.
i, unfortunately, watched most of the episode. the two lines actually aired. TPC/Coldsplash invited the dad band of the show to a loft party after the battle. the dad band said they would love to, but they had to ask their wives first…hilarity ensued.
ohh saw that & flipped right by, not recognizing them.
