We know this because he says so. Twice! You get one when Conan excitedly greets the band after this performance of the latest Vampire Weekend single “The Kids Don’t Stand A Chance,” and one more before Mr. O’Brien introduces the Max Weinberg 7. Per custom, if it’s a performance at 30 Rock, Ezra will bring the string section. And if it’s a performance anywhere, Rostam will bring the scarf. The twist on this “Kids” take? No sign of Chromeo.

Vampire Weekend will be making at least two more appearances this year: the Best Album category and the Most Overrated category in this year’s Gummy Awards. Few acts have such power.

  1. Sonofabitch, why would they choose this song as a single? I mean, I know they’ve already used four songs from the album, but why not choose a better, more radio-friendly song like “M79″ or “Walcott”?

Also, what was with that first line sung by Ezra? He sounded like Bjork with a cold.

It’s kind of an obscure song, but the riff is EXACTLY the riff from “It Shows in Your Face” by The Gas. Has anybody else noticed?

When watching the video of Chromeo joining VW, all I could think of was Musical Youth’s “Pass the Dutchie”.

  4. few human beings act as ridiculous on stage as that bass player.

  5. well, the lead singer too.

I didn’t want to believe this was a really good band.

this only proves that vampire weekend is a great band, and has what it takes to put on a tight live performance

  9. I love these guys. I’ve been listening to the album all year long, but I’m still not tried of any of the songs, not even “A-Punk” or “Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa”. I don’t understand where all the disdain for them comes from. Oh well. Not my loss.

  10. aww, conan, what are you thinking?!

This was incredibly boring. And I’m not even a big VW hater.

  12. It is actually fun for me, hating vampire weekend is like a game.

chris the bassist might be the most sweetly awkward guy in contemporary music.. and that’s saying a lot.

  14. The drummer resembles a pigeon with the way he moves his head. haha

  15. I think that is the best performance I’ve seen from them. Very tight overall and Ezra’s vocals were as good, if not better, than they are on the album.

Love Vampire Weekend (Don’t think im too cool to say that unlike some), but this is just about the worst song off the album to release as a single. i mean, come on Vampire Weekend. like someone else said, M79 is awesome. how about I Stand Corrected? there are many gems on the album, why this one?

  17. I love these guys.
