Microsoft’s new Songsmith program creates horrible muzak on the fly to accompany your singing. If that doesn’t sound like a bad idea to you, please watch this unintentionally hilarious commercial created in a bizarro parallel universe where irony was never discovered. Let’s hope the software doesn’t inspire a Kanye West album. (Also it doesn’t work.)

  6. Funnily enough, to me it seemed that they were trying to be funny and just weren’t that funny… I know it’s more enjoyable to point at Microsoft and say, “Look how idiotic! They don’t even know how funny that commercial is!” But really, I’m pretty sure it’s supposed to be ironic. The software is kind of silly and gimicky and I think this ad tries to make that a selling point… If they tried to do a straight faced, serious descriptive ad, I think it would come of a unintentionally funny… I don’t know what this is parodying, but I don’t honestly think Microsoft fails to see the ridiculous nature of the entire thing.

this was definitely supposed to be funny, and it somehow becomes funnier now that i find out that stereogum didn’t get it.

So, I’m sitting here, doing some work, and a tune keeps running through my head, just underneath my level of conscious annoyance. Suddenly, I focus on it: it’s the stupid daughter’s song!

    Microsoft is pure evil.
