I think the ol’ Captain needs a better stereo. M Ward is anything but predictable and boring. Maybe try to listen to all his works, that might help.

NPR is great. All the amazing concert podcasts. Andrew Bird last week. M Ward this week. I think i need to go make another donation. I really, really wish my IT guy hadn’t disabled the sound on all the computers. Having to wait until 6 to hear this is going to make the afternoon drag. And then hearing it is probably going to make waiting til his show at the somerville theatre even harder. Lovely album art too. NPR and M Ward make the world a better place

It’s almost too mesmerizing when taken in through headphones (I got distracted from work lost in thought)– essentially the album is a vast echo chamber of goodness. His studio performances always beat the live versions by wide margins.

Nah man, he doesn’t suck live– it’s just doesn’t have the same effect– the layered richness accustomed to the studio production.
Like Bjork or Interpol are better in studio while acts like The Secret Machines or Broken Social Scene have more lasting live performances. It depends on the genre I guess.

I’ve seen him live twice. Both times were amazing. He played at an old theater with great acoustics, an ideal setting. Maybe you caught him at the wrong venue?
The new stuff sounds great, I almost wish I couldn’t listen to it all yet. One more month….such a teaser.
on first listen i’m not nearly as excited about it as i hoped i would be, but his track record is such that i’ll give it more serious consideration next month when it’s released for real, and we’ll see what happens then. i like the atmosphere and strings and everything, but i also miss what he can do with an acoustic guitar, you know?
