When we handed over the site to Death Cab For Cutie a ways back, Chris Walla BTW‘d Telekinesis. After that, Telekinesis, aka Seattle songwriter Michael Benjamin Lerner, was picked up by Merge records, who’re releasing his debut Telekinesis! in April (note the exclamation point). As far as conflicts of interesting, it turns out the Lerner recorded it in Seattle with — surprise! — Chris Walla. When Walla introduced us to the project, he showcased three tracks, including an earlier version of “Coast Of Carolina.” We have the updated “Coast” from the Merge collection. Lerner plays just about everything on it (and on the album), but when he tours, he takes a band with him. Which is what he’ll be doing when he goes out on the road in late February with Ra Ra Riot.

Telekinesis! is out 4/7 via Merge. You can find out more about the man at his MySpace. Here’s where he’ll be touring. Look for SXSW dates, too.

Chronicle embraces gritty filmmaking
He seems like the child who would one day flip out and stab someone — he’s not someone you would want to develop telekinesis and to be able to fling cars around. Andrew’s world changes when he, his cousin Matt (Alex Russell) and his cousin ...
Is 'Chronicle' the future of the found footage genre?
Because the three guys are all proficient in telekinesis (the ability to move objects with your mind), though, they can simply make the camera “float” alongside them. Thus, Chronicle isn’t filled with shaky handheld camera work ...

I’ve heard the record and it’s pretty amazing. Not to mention he’s one of the nicest dudes you’ll ever meet. I really hope this record takes off for him.

  8. Unbelievably great in its simplicity. There isn’t enough music like this out there today, that is, unadorned, earnest, sing along power pop. I am so excited for this album. It will likely be one of my favorites of the year, especially if their live performance was any indication (obviously it will be) of what the record has in store!

  9. Makes me smile everytime I hear it! Just saw them live, fun as hell to hang out with as well! Nice to see Telekinesis is going places! Thank you Chris Walla as well!
