Following the greatest hits collection, Capitol’s found another way to make money off the band that used to be put out records with them: The expanded Pablo Honey, The Bends, and OK Computer will be out 3/24 as either double CDs or a double CD/single DVD set. Additionally, Coldplay’s label is giving you a dozen EPs on limited-edition vinyl from 1992′s Drill EP through the “2+2=5″ single on 4/21. More details:

Pablo Honey is expanded with the [...] “Drill” EP, the “Creep” single, and a four-song BBC session from June 1992, among other rarities. The DVD includes four videos, a “Top of the Pops” appearance and nine songs taped in May 1994 at London’s Astoria.

The Bends is augmented with the classic “My Iron Lung” single, a 1994 BBC session and additional songs from the Astoria concert. OK Computer includes a four-song BBC session from 1997 and the singles for “Paranoid Android,” “Karma Police” and “No Surprises.”

You can read the rest over at Billboard, where they also mention Radiohead heads out on tour in March for a Southern American trek with Kraftwerk. NME mentions that as far as the singles reissues go, “the vinyl covers will feature the original 5″ CD artwork printed as a sticker on the record jackets.” The singles can currently be pre-ordered at Insound.

i actually don’t mind this news. i’d love to get remastered (hmmm…ARE they remastered” versions of pablo and the bends, and i’m still missing the EPs.

damn typo. i meant to ask (are they remastered?)…anyway…

  3. Wow. Radiohead’s going to have more re-issues than Elvis Costello at this pace, and that’s saying a lot.

  4. The only benefit is Drill being reissued. Everything else is still easy to find. The BBC sessions are probably incomplete, so not worth it.

  5. I tend to think the majority of reissues are unnecessary, unless it’s something out of print, but that’s how most major labels are making money these days. ::Shrug::

  6. “Capitol’s found another way to make money off the band that used to be put out records with them…”

The fans get to hear tracks that weren’t on the original releases so what’s the problem?

It seems to me like a reasonable, legitimate way to make money.

It’s not like the record company are releasing embarrassing out-takes or something of that nature.

you’re right, and it’s fucking cliched for the blogs and their readers to keep complaining about re-releases, reissues, etc. when everyone’s just going to illegally download everything anyway

this site always finds at least one thing every day to complain about

  7. killer cars is one of radiohead’s best songs.

  8. superfuck capitol.

  9. I remember when Radiohead was on MTV. I wonder who’s paying who for the reissue rights. That’s why I’m a solo artist.

  10. Fantastic news! When will these expanded versions leak onto the internet?

spectrum9- sweet music. you should release individual tracks for us to not ever remix, ever.

Well they’re “mastered,” as all widely released albums are. And actually, mastering methods in the ’90s were much better than they are currently – modern sound engineers tend to jack up the sound so much that it causes clipping and digital distortion. So if any remastering was done, it would probably end up sounding worse than the original masters.

  13. “among other rarities”

Is that a polite way of saying “Pop Is Dead”?

  14. Does Radiohead receive no money from this? Wouldn’t the contract they signed when they released these albums in the 90s still hold for any rerelease? Yeah, it’s a drag that capitol does things with their back catalogue without Radiohead’s participation, but I lost the Bends years ago and this is the best excuse I have for rebuying it instead of downloading it.

The live tracks have already been released as a DVD and most fans probably have all the b-sides and ep tracks – these “re-releases” are offensively dull.

Reissues and deluxe editions are actually the smartest thing a major label can do right now, considering the imminent death of the CD format.

That said, I can’t wait to illegally download the shit out of all of these.

I bought these not so long ago and whilst I enjoy them, they aren’t what I consider an essential part of my CD collection as i have the original albums anyway.. being the geek that i am, i downloaded a radiohead ‘widget’ from http://www.clearspring.com/widgets/49b51b8fe356dd2b it’s pretty cool i love the music player on it, so thought i would share.
