Continuing the daily track-by-track unveiling of the Dressner brothers’ Dark Was The Night charity comp, today’s tune is a reworked studio version of Grizzly’s “Deep Blue Sea” cover, basically the Friend version with a little more Grizzly filigree. Hear it over at MySpace all day.

This the band of 2009. Absolutely stunning.

Wow, the instrumentation really adds a lot to this song. Really wonderful.

  3. I love the new version–the slow tempo and Dan’s soft vocals contrast with the percussive interruptions and low grunts of the clarinet to make this truly the band’s own. If this is any indication of the sound GB will be putting forth on the new album we’re sure to all be in for a treat.

  4. yes! it reminds me of being on a train. they’ve got magic little intricacies down to a T. i don’t know any other band that can make things this romantically magical.

now just wait until you hear the other GB track on the comp!! just wait!!!!

  5. also, one more thought… i think this song is the perfect example of how daniel rossen is actually a vintage disney character and he should be singing this song while sitting on the branch of a tree with the moon singing behind him. and lots of little animals playing beneath. and its such a good thing.

I think Grizzly Bear deserve to be legends, like, big rock band legends.

  7. Anyone have an mp3 link or alternate stream?? The office blocks myspace…that’s what’s hip these days, right IT guys? and not facebook, go figure) and it hasn’t turned up on hype machine yet…someone, anyone?? thanks!

Everything I have heard from this album i have just loved so far, and I haven’t even heard the tracks from my favorite bands like Beirut, The Decemberists, Sufjan and The Arcade Fire. Forget Animal Collective, and all the other hype. Could a compilation album become the best album of 2009?

Grizzly aren’t represented by Web Sheriff’s boss so it shouldn’t be a problem.

I hate Web Sheriff. He is so 1999.

Unfortunately, it should still be a problem. The compilation itself comes from 4AD Records, and that is who the Web Sheriff is representing.

        Ahhh okay. He’s such a jerk…

It’s the National now and I’ve already got the song as a live bootleg… I missed Grizzly Bear. :(
