The south does totally exist. Why the hell did we get snubbed from this tour? 3 dates in FL, none in NC, SC, GA, VA, TN… Lame as hell.
I agree. We need to get all the cool bands a map that emphasizes the overlooked states like Georgia, the Carolinas, and most importantly, Oklahoma.
You missed that they’re playing in Oxford, Mississippi which definitely counts as the South. Why they’d skip New Orleans is beyond me, though.
I grew up in south MS, so I’ve got to say it’s pretty cool that they’re playing there (and I read that they’re interested in Jam Band crowds, well Oxford is nothing but those kind of kids in my experience). But I would rather have driven to New Orleans when I was a teenager. Oh well the Northeast gets a slew of choices. Yay for us.
I’ll also complain about the lack of a New Orleans date. Boooooooo
Yes. I think it should be a requirement that all bands on tour play New Orleans. They really don’t know how much they miss out on skipping Deep Southern areas (fuck those Yankee-ass mofos from the Carolinas and Virginia(! even) that talk about “the south” right?)
The fact that they have never stepped foot in louisiana really makes me wonder why they couldn’t this tour. Fuck Florida. Why not just play Disney World? Wait a minute…. that actually might be kinda cool. I guess I’m off to oxford.
no y’all should all come to oxford!
05/11 – Washington DC @ 9:30 Club
looks like they left a gap in april for coachella!
No Kansas, No Misouri; looks like I’ll be treking to Colorado. You fuckers.
Should have stopped in Lawrence, KS or at least KC, MO.
yes! buying my ticket for dallas asap
Wow… they’re not even playing Merriweather Post Pavilion. That seems stupid that they aren’t going to play the place they named their album after. I guess I can see them in Washington.
That’s a good point
why would they play merriweather? have you ever been there? it’s a huge, corporate venue outside baltimore. animal collective couldn’t come close to filling all the seats in there. nice try, though.
so excited to see them back in dallas!
No Missouri again, fuck you guys!!!
No one comes to Cleveland. Ever.
are you kidding me?
just be glad you don’t live in Michigan though we’re finally getting some love
you’re very right on this. i can’t count how many times i’ve seen tours go from toronto to chicago or chicago to columbus or cleveland.
i know we’re a peninsula but it’s not that far out of the way!
Whatever man. I played The Grog Shop like two weeks ago, and were you there? nope.
Cool to see a Mejeriet date. Might drop by.
opening for bonnaroo also, huh?
Leeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeds!
so they will go to portland but wont hit seattle… damnit
But…but…we’re IMPORTANT! Fuck…time to get train tickets.
were is the love for seattle. Were way better than portland LAME
the dates in there are wrong, at least for the european gigs. Lille and Nantes are in March, not February…
You’re right. Fixed!
i can’t believe they’re playing at the culture room in ft.lauderdale. that place is sooo small. i saw broken social scene there a year ago and it was incredibly cramped.
Despite it being small and cramped, it’s still possibly the best venue in South Florida unfortunately.
club cinema in pompano would have been better. i actually saw broken social scene there a few months ago as well and there was plenty of space and not a bad view in the whole venue.
this is true. tix onsale tomorrow, I think theyll sell out in about 2 seconds considering the venue holds very few people. club cinema was pretty nice for bss though, I wouldn’t mind going there again. to be honest I don’t even “get” animal collective but since I hear theyre amazing live and no one ever comes to south florida, I will be going for sure.
No Missouri. Fuck.
They’re coming to Oxford, OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *jumps up and down and titties bounce*
*visualizes norovirus’ titties bouncing as i pray to god that you’re a girl and not a boy*
i agree with “this sucks.” why no baltimore love? i don’t get it.
see you all in toronto!
“Animal Collective Announce Merriweather World Tour” – Yet no dates anywhere in the southern hemisphere??
At times like these, this is when I hate having moved to Japan. The east has been left in the cold
Ohio always gets the shaft from almost every band that isn’t completely mainstream. What did we do to deserve this!?!?!?!!?!
Graydon Creed: You. Were. Born.
NO SEATTLE?
I mean, I understand not going to Missouri or Kansas…but c’mon.
Big Sur? Oakland? No San Diego? wtf?
06/05 – Austin, TX @ Stubbs
I can’t wait!
I know the lack of Seattle has been mentioned already, but really, what the FUCK, Animal Collective? Seriously? Are you a real band? And you’re not playing Seattle? You really could have done a lot towards earning my fanship, which is, at this point, at best tepid, by playing here. I mean who the fuck DOESN’T hit Seattle on a tour? Jeez. Are you too good for us? Seriously, I mean you all must have something against the city not to play here. I mean KEXP’s here after all. Pretty sure you owe a good deal to them, as do most band’s who make music that is outside the mainstream. Well, whatever. I’ll get to listening to Merriweather when I get to it, I guess.
Animal Collective at Stubbs?!?! Damn this 5 month wait
responding to the “no seattle?!?!” comments… come on, you know they’re gonna play sasquatch on the 23rd – proximally close enough to not complain about and an experience maybe 6,000 times more fun than seeing them play the showbox or whatever.
Well I’m from Seattle…just got tickets for the Monday show in Portland (go to ticketwes…hurry!), and now intend to go to the Saturday Sasquatch show to see REM. If they play Saturday afternoon I might die before I get to Portland.
hold up, REM playing this year’s sasquatch? sure you’re not thinking of last year’s?
I think s/he’s almost certainly thinking of last year’s. Particularly because this year’s line-up has not been released yet. It is a good point that these guys will likely play Sasquatch. If that happened, all would be forgiven, naturally. I LURVE Sasquatch! And, after finally getting around to listening to My Girls today, I think I can safely say I would enjoy seeing Animal Collective there very much.
true, the lineup has not yet been revealed. but on a note completely unrelated to this post, i’d like to mention that sun kil moon, the avett brothers, peter bjorn and john, and kings of leon (who i will not be seeing) have already confirmed. and most likely AC.
I was thinking of last.
Good thing REM isn’t my favorite band or anything.
The southern choices still make no sense: Nashville, Ashville, Atlanta, St. Louis, Knoxville all would have all been totally great spots for them to hit. Oxford is admittedly super cool, I am glad it is getting some love….but it is definitely random as hell. Florida isn’t really the south anyways, so i won’t bother complaining about them.
their album was recorded in oxford…….. not really that random.
Nice, another L.A. date! Already seeing them this Friday at the Fonda! Can’t wait……………………..
closest show is a 6 hour drive….is it worth it…hmmmm
no question. yes.
anybody know the setlist for the January 20th New York show?
Opened with In The Flowers then Leaf House.
Played most of MPP (except Bluish, Also Frightened, Taste and No More Runnin). Last three songs were Fireworks>My Girls>Brothersport.
Encore was Banshee Beat and Slippi.
You know why they left out the South? I would bet they’re going to play BONNAROO!! The tour ends just in time!
As mentioned above, Animal Collective left out Seattle because they’re playing Sasquatch, which is in the area. The only reason it’s not listed on their tour is the lineup isn’t set yet, but I can almost assure you that AC will be there.
What? No Dothan Alabama? That’s total BS. We’ve got a 24 hour WalMart and everything… C’mon!
YAY they’re coming to canada
and its a great excuse for me to visit Montreal
everyone complaining about the south just look how the tour ends right when bonaroo usually is. i’m sure they’ll play that and that’s why they don’t have southern dates.
St. Louis is not the south, its the Midwest.
Hardly a “World Tour” – barely a Northern Hemisphere Tour. Did AC take geography classes with Sarah Palin?
Hunter W.’s comment has -4? Big surprise, he had the gall to criticize Animal Collective. But no, they’re not a real band. All live footage I’ve seen suggests they’re just three guys who play loops and jerk awkwardly. Neither singer can sing at all either, though I can never decide which one is more annoying. In the end it’s almost fascinating, watching them fail in the particular way they do.
I wonder if mike reads comments about all the bands he doesn’t like
Try living in Australia….
ok
or anywhere in the Southern hemisphere! Not really a “world tour”
when do tickets go on sale? dependent on the venue?
Dear Seattle,
No one fucking likes you.
-The world
PS. Please don’t come to Portland and ruin our show, just wait and have a shitty time at Sasquatch.
Dear Portland, I like your mediocre city but you got some douche bag animal collective fans. WHAT IS UP WITH THAT?
Only when you’re in town.
The only show close to me (read: within a 5 hour drive of me) is in Chicago, and that show is tonight.
I fucking hate living in central Indiana.
I can’t wait for the show in Austin at Stubbs
Yeah Vegas! More bands should come here. Vegas is more than just a cesspool of deginerate gamblers and drunken tourists. There are a whole slew of people ready to rokk . . . or freak out . . . or do whatever Animal Collective does. We taken over!
You know as much as i agree with you guys about them playing more dates in the south – new orleans, atlanta, nashville, whatever – no one ever comes to MS. EVER. And I really can’t blame them, but those other cities always get the good musical acts- you know other the same b-rated pseudo jam bands that proliferate our area- so i have no problem saying “screw you guys” for once. And i mean that in the nicest way possible.
Just bought my tickets for the Austin show. I’ve never seen these guys live and I’m extremely pumped. Brother Sport is going to melt my face.
just bought my tickets for royal oak… hells yea
let’s hope they can honor these dates. The first LA show for Friday 1/23 was canceled due to illness. Yet the following night’s date at the Troubadour is still on…
BUMMED the show was postponed tonight in LA…sat in traffic for 2 hours just to get to the venue and see that it wasn’t gonna happen!
**fingers crossed for a Sunday reschedule**
Um, I live in Arkansas. That’s some bullshit.
But it’s northeast, so that’s……closer to..somewhere
I say Bonnaroo. They left a perfect spot for it at the end of their tour. Let’s hope!
Some thoughts here:
http://artefax.wordpress.com/2009/01/20/recollective/
Ok, I just want to vent for a second. The Big Sur show, is perhaps going to be the best venue to see AC this tour. only 400 people, outside… BIG SUR!
Anyway, to make sure I got tickets I enlisted everyone I knew (even my mom) to refresh the page and buy tickets when the link came up. I ended up getting through the traffic and buying a pair (I was the only one of my little web army) and THEN… two days later I received this in my inbox:
“Henry Miller Library has issued a full refund for your payment.
Message from merchant: Due to a PayPal coding error we oversold tickets. The tickets sold out at 12:14:24. Your purchase was processed after that. The only way for us to deal with this is to issue you a refund. We are very, very sorry.”
This is so infuriating!
Mate, it’s all karma. You crushed a kitten in a previous life.
With your bare hands.
DAMN. That sucks so bad. What a place to see that band too, my little brother lives in Monterey and we’ve driven down to Big Sur and it’s gorgeous.
You’ll find a way in. You sound like you want it enough. It just might cost too a pretty penny
Ugh I hate the pompousness of the whole Seattle vs Portland thing. Seattle is a crappy city with crappy venues and Portland is an even crappier city with even crappier venues. No amount of Animal Collective shows in either city will change that.
got my tickets yesterday for Orlando, though i live in St pete 5 min away from State theatre which sold out in three days ,i didnt want to miss them for anything so im makin the hour and half drive which isnt bad at all in my opinion, two days after the show by me and its the last one they have (for now) which should be AWESOME!
only bad thing now is the wait, it is going to be a bitch!!!
Lots of good music in the south equals lots of good music fans in the south.
Good music is not equal to three dudes pushing buttons on stage for two and half hours.
Good music fans will not buy tickets.
Three dudes will not profit.
No shows in the south.
