After all those Always The Bridesmaid singles collections, the more distorted, heavier, and, yes, slightly Billy Joe Armstrong-esqueThe Rake’s Song” suggested the Decemberists’ new full-length The Hazards Of Live might be going in a ballsier direction. Relatively speaking here. This is the Decemberists we’re talking about. As far as the tastefully minimal woody album art, we’re told it was designed by Colin’s (living) wife, so at least we can assume the aforementioned dead spouse, pest-killing track isn’t autobiographical. Probably.

The Hazards Of Love is out 3/24 via Capitol. Remember to check Colin’s Twitter. Or, better yet, Willie Nelson‘s.

  1. It wasn’t Billie Joe Armstrong-esque. But way to regurgitate an ill-informed commenters opinion!

Anyway, can we talk about this album art? Hmm Beautiful!

It doesn’t look like something a major label would allow as an album cover. It’s very muted, and won’t exactly stand out on a sale rack. Personally I think it’s fine. I’m sure the rest of the album art will be nice and classy. I just hope the CD art is really good, because that’s what ends up in my CD case.

I do appreciate the nice empty white space at the top. It give a good contrast to the busy album title in trees.

I’m sure the double LP with digital downloads will be within $5 of the price of the CD and much more amazing. CD’s are dead.
