Banhart kissed his beard goodbye, but the gender-bending/open-ended sexuality remains on “Forget About Him,” his contribution to the Kath Bloom tribute CD Loving Takes This Course. The 16-song collection also includes Bill Callahan, Mark Kozelek, the Dodos, Josephine Foster, Scout Niblett, etc. If you’re unfamiliar with Bloom, she’s a Connecticut-born singer-songwriter who’s created truly otherworldly music on her own and, to my ears, especially via her numerous collaborations with classic American guitarist Loren Mazzacane Connors. Here’s Banhart’s take on the lady.

  3. A great song! It’s refreshing as it seems totally new for Devendra.

  4. it sounds just like the last record, which sounded nothing like classic devendra. this isn’t new for him, this is just the road he’s been increasingly been taking ever since he got signed. definitely not a bad road though, just a much much different one.
