Seasonal affect disorder is no joke. Between Punxsutawney Phil’s shadow yesterday and the snow outside my window, winter is going nowhere. Ever. Which works out well for bay area seafaring rockers Port O’Brien, who will launch a series of 7″s celebrating the seasons later this month with Winter. Lead Porter Van Pierszalowski explains:
Although the seasons aren’t very well defined on the coast of California, they have always greatly influenced our lives. The annual summer migration to Alaska in search of money, the readjusting months that Autumn become, the nostalgic nature of Winter, and the search for stability in the face of Spring. We decided to release a 7″ single for each season of 2009 to document these different times.
Things get started with the listless cut “Is This Really What It’s Come To?,” which is made of pure Win (as in good song, or Butler).
The Winter tracks will be out digitally on 2/17, with 500 vinyl copies available via portobrien.com and the band’s MySpace on 2/24.

yay! new port o’brien! can’t wait to see them with m ward in portland!
this is perfect for wintertime. this band keeps getting better.
this sounds nothing like Win. But id does sound damn good.
When are these guys coming back east? Its about time.
Discovered Port O’brien right here on Stereogum last year. I immediately bought everything I could find and told anyone who would listen about this great band I found. Really, Really enjoy this music and looking forward to more!!
they sure look cleaner than the last time they were in boston. really digging the song
this song is awesome. perfect for winter. seriously though, it sounds nothing like arcade fire. it seems indie “journalists” are doing what rock “journalists” are doing.. but instead of calling everything “beatles-esque” .. they go with the arcade fire. lazy barstards.
awesome song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
can’t wait for their next album!
