The forthcoming collection RE: Generations includes Nat King Cole remixes by Cee-Lo, the Roots, Just Blaze, will.i.am (damn) and others. One of those others is TV On The Radio, who handle “Nature Boy.” The compilation’s aim:

RE:Generations aims to construct a tuneful bridge between generations, cultures and races. Evocative of a sleek and stylish metrolounge where music and the visual arts converge, RE:Generations honors Nat King Cole’s continued cultural influence around the planet, 90 years after his birth.

In this case, you evoke that sleek and stylish metrolounge by affixing a backdrop of spaced-out, percussive, and chilly TVOTR-style fuzziness to Cole’s original.

Heh. Anything for a quick buck. Nat King Cole was a musician. These poor stupid clowns like will.i.am are IT workers who manufacture product.

Hey, what the hell, it’s a free country: If people like this stuff better than music, that’s not my problem.

Yeah, the Dirt Bombs did a record of mostly old R&B and Soul covers, but garage rock covers of old songs is pretty tired, see Detroit Cobras.
