Remember those photos of Trent Reznor in the studio with Jane’s Addiction? Well, turns out Reznor’s taking the guys with him on NIN’s last US tour. What?! As he notes, “[I]t’s time to make NIN disappear for a while.” He chose JA to accompany him on his victory lap because after listening to the early albums he decided “these guys were the real deal and in this current climate mostly dominated by poseurs and pussies it was refreshing to hear something that sounded dangerous, volatile, beautiful and SINCERE.” Read his missive at www.nin.com.

  1. Maybe he’s hoping Jane’s will disappear with NIN when he takes them on tour.

  2. Nice move to just be “disappearing for a while” instead of “retiring” and then un-retiring in three years like so many people do.

  3. Good timing for Trent to take a break. He was in serious danger of turning into Billy Corgan 2.0. Nobody wants that.

He is the Al Gore of Alt Rock, taking credit for more than he is owed.

Agreed William. This is a quote from Trent’s statement. His own words, now:

These performances essentially created and defined the term “alternative” rock in the US, created an ongoing festival franchise that is still thriving (Lollapalooza), set the stage for Nirvana to shift popular taste a few months later, and were really fucking FUN to play and attend – truly the best times I’ve had.

As I understand it, he is saying that ‘alternative rock’ would not have existed had it not been for him and Jane’s? Wow. Those biceps aren’t all that have gotten oversized.

Thanks for at least looking at what he said. I think he definitely has made a contribution to music, just not that contribution.

      He’s referring to Lollapalooza, jackass.

“Towards the beginning of my career in Nine Inch Nails, our biggest break came in the form of an invitation to perform a series of shows with Jane’s Addiction. These performances essentially created and defined the term “alternative” rock in the US, created an ongoing festival franchise that is still thriving (Lollapalooza), set the stage for Nirvana to shift popular taste a few months later, and were really fucking FUN to play and attend – truly the best times I’ve had.”

If that is what it is saying, it is worded poorly.
