The Appleseed Cast’s seventh full-length Sagarmatha is out today. The Kansas group still gets the emo tag on occasion, but at this point their sound — largely instrumental, elegant post-rock — exists outside Mineral references. On the new collection singer/guitarist Christopher Crisci doesn’t work out his vocal chords too much; instead, we get shadowy intonations and submerged lyricism. See, for instance, “Raise The Sails” and “The Summer Before.” In most cases, after a while, the words give way to shimmering guitars passages. Check out another Sagarmatha epic, “A Bright Light.”

Sagarmatha is out today (2/17) via The Militia Group. You can hear more from it at Appleseed
Cast’s MySpace.

We were fans of the earlier volumes — which helped launch bands like Jimmy Eat World, Appleseed Cast and Further Seems Forever — so we thought it was very cool that they wanted to include us.

    Hit or miss? What missed?

  4. I need to stop comparing everything they do to the Low Level Owls. I think this is their best release since then, though only the two guitarists remain from the original troupe.
