Swan Lake, the Canadian power trio of Daniel Bejar (New Pornographers, Destroyer), Spencer Krug (Wolf Parade, Sunset Rubdown), and Carey Mercer (Frog Eyes, Blackout Beach), are releasing their second album Enemy Mine at the end of March (3/24, Jagjaguwar). It’s an amazing collection that opens with the epic “Spanish Gold, 2044,” our vote for one of the best single tracks, 2009. We caught up with the song’s singer/writer Carey Mercer, who told us this among other things:
“Spanish Gold 2044″ is both a reference to the “Kokomo”-like Matthew McConaughey-style back-ups that I begged Dan and Spencer to do, which they loved to do, given our collective love of old “NO SHIRT NO PROBLEM,” and it is a reference to that aforementioned “Adventure-weapon” bullwhip lyric. I am making fun of myself. All of my songs are a balance between serious, heavy-handed statements about “society,” and then making fun of myself for making these statements in song.
To hear his thoughts on what it means to keep a “bullwhip by the nightstand” as well as the song itself, head here.
In this week’s Drop, we also offered the chance to win a Lonely Island-packed 8GB iPod Touch and an autographed vinyl copy of Incredibad.
It would take a tough critic not to find some humor in the Lonely Island’s recent “Jizz In My Pants” video. In this week’s Drop, you can win an 8G iPod Touch loaded with that as well as Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone, and Akiva Schaffer’s other audio and visual creations. The Grand Prize winner also gets an autographed vinyl copy of the new Lonely Island album Incredibad. If you don’t take the Grand Prize, don’t fret: We also have two copies of the Incredibad CD/DVD and a double-sided Lonely Island poster for two runners up.
The iPod looks like this:

The album sans signatures:

One winner gets the iPod and autographed vinyl. Two runners up each get the CD/DVD and poster. Incredibad is currently available at iTunes. Or, you can sign up to win here. There’s still time to take home Sigur Rós’ extremely limited Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust Deluxe Edition, too. Enter to win.
CONTEST ENDS 03/04/09 AT 12PM EST.

This entire album is so damn good.
Just to be clear I’m talking about the Swan Lake album. If anyone knows a bar where they play that on repeat, sign me up.
Wow a Lonely Island Ipod, really? The two bars I went to on Sat were playing LI videos and songs on repeat…what is going on?? Yeah it was somewhat funny at first but fuck me it’s fleeting just like every other shitty snl project…remember jimmy fallon and his album?
Far be it for me to use youtube as a measure of success, but in this case it applies
Jimmy Fallon – Idiot Boyfriend – 500,000 views in two years.
The Lonely Island – I’m on a Boat – 3 million views in a week.
So which is it – 80GB iPod or 8GB iPod Touch? You’ve got conflicting pictures and text, homies.
It’s the 8GB iPod Touch. We have fixed….
That Swan Lake song is really, really good. I am so very excited for Enemy Mine
nice prize
Not fair I tried to enter and it is only 11:15 EST
