The tour pairing tuneful and sensitive Swedish troubadour Loney Dear with sensitive and tuneful Chicagoan troubadour Andrew Bird has made its way to the west coast, stopping last night at Los Angeles’s Orpheum Theatre. Bringing these two together makes for an inspired bill, and Emil (Loney) Svanagen’s certainly benefited from playing his bedroom pop to a crowd like Bird’s. (An a cappella song last night was met with pindrop silence, and the set a partial standing ovation.) But the sold-out crowd came for Andrew, who had done “Fitz and Dizzyspells” for Leno the night before and capped off his LA stay by receiving a marriage proposal last night. Just comes with the territory. Relive it via these photos by Andrew Youssef, or by taking a listen to the Andrew/Dear show at the 9:30 Club in D.C. streaming over at NPR.

And I should care why??
that picture looks like nicolas cage.
I had a decent seat for the show last night, great performance. I was worried I was gonna get sleepy because it was gonna be too mellow, but I was super into it the entire time.
I am so in love with Mr. Bird; this post totally made my day. I wish I was there to witness the greatness myself. Thanks for the pictures!
I saw him play here in San Diego, he made me completely forget I was in the god awful venue that is SOMA. It was amazing to watch him “build” his songs live. The best part of the show was during technical difficulties. Mr. Bird felt compelled to entertain us with a spontaneous rendition of “Dr. Stringz” and one other song! All this with a low grade fever!
I was there as well
Loney, dear is/was well worth the whole ticket price.
Mr. Bird was his fine as well
here’s my take

I saw him last night at the Fillmore. I must say, seeing him play with Dosh is one of my favorite elements of the show.
