Long Beach sextet Crystal Antlers’ forthcoming Tentacles will ostensibly be the last new album released by Touch & Go. If that indeed proves to be the case, it’s not a bad way to go out: Tentacles is a baker’s dozen fuzzed, sweaty, and swinging psychedelic, expansive, and noisy garage rock (etc.) tracks. Expanding the scope of the self-titled 2008 EP that got them signed to T&G in the first place, these songs find the guys digging their feet in deeper, showcasing an even stronger reach. The album culminates in the moving 7-minute downtempo, synthesized, echo howled, and free-feedback finale “Several Tongues.” For now, take a listen to something earlier on the program, the bluesy “Andrew,” which we first saw in its live form.

Tentacles is out 4/6 in the US and 4/7 in Europe via Touch & Go. They’re good live:

  1. Well if this track is anything to go by, I think T&G will have a pretty good swan song. The only release I’m more looking forward to this year rhymes with schmizzly bear.

You might want to try reading that T&G press release again. They are going to continue as a label, but shuttered their distro wing.

  8. am i the only who thinks this band sounds a whole lot like 3 Mile Pilot used to?
