When news of the Blur reunion came out, a commenter joked that maybe it would “make Noel Gallagher and Oasis start actually trying again.” Well, if not trying harder, the brothers Gallagher are at least garnering goodwill by making some of their music free. The tracks — set to be packaged together as The Dreams We Have As Children — were recorded by a solo Noel at a charity show for Teenage Cancer Trust at London’s Royal Albert Hall in March 2007. You can download four of the tracks at no cost, one code a day starting today, by using links that show up in the The Times UK (and, outside the UK, using Google presumably).

Additionally, a CD that includes 11 more songs will be included with the Times on 3/15. All the tracks will be available at regular download sites the next day. (And don’t worry, Gallagher gave the Teenage Cancer Trust a donation so he could give the tracks away for free.) NME has the details about the specific tracks. While you read up on it, take a listen to “Those Swollen Hand Blues,” a new Beatles-esque B-side on the out-now “Falling Down” single.

The single comes with “Falling Down” remixes by the Prodigy, the Gibb, and/or Amorphous Androgynous depending on which format you buy.

Here’s the iTunes schedule for the aforementioned live freebies (with release dates) via NME:

“(It’s Good) To Be Free” (3/10)
“Talk Tonight” (3/11)
“Cast No Shadow” (3/12)
“The Importance Of Being Idle” (3/13)
“Don’t Look Back In Anger” (3/14)

And the free CD tracklist:
01 “Fade Away”
02 “Listen Up”
03 “Half The World Away”
04 “The Butterfly Collector”
05 “All You Need Is Love”
06 “Don’t Go Away”
07 “Sad Song”
08 “Wonderwall”
09 “Slide Away”
10 “There Is A Light That Never Goes Out”
11 “Married With Children”

Of course Dig Out Your Soul is still out via Big Brother. But you’re expected to pay for it.

Oasis is always better when Noel sings.

In my opinion, they are one of the best bands ever when Noel sings. Not as much on the album tracks, but the wealth of b-side material with Noel singing is staggering. They have a truly different sound in that material.

  6. A Beatles-esque tune with a title taken from a Pink Floyd song… Well, I guess no one’s ever accused them of being too subtle.

  7. Maybe if people ignore Oasis they’ll go away.

    • you can’t ignore oasis. they’re always yelling at us about how you, me, Radiohead, Blur, Bloc Party and everybody else are a bunch of tossers and how fantastic they are.
that’s music news (drama) you can’t ignore.

  8. wait, where’s the beef song with jay-z?

  9. Good for when you feel really sick..but can’t throw up. And you know when you do you’ll feel better… Everytiiime.

Best Band in the world, mourn their loss and grow a pair all the skirts too scared to admit that they make the only music worth kistening to, ROCK ‘N’ ROLL.
