We’ve already established the fact that the Yeah Yeah Yeahs tried something different with It’s Blitz! and it worked (way beyond my expectations, actually). Karen O recently took a victory lap around the block in the “Zero” video, but a Deluxe Edition acoustic version of “Hysteric” finds her in a quieter, more contemplative mode, transforming one of Blitz!‘s most affecting (and downcast triumphant) late-night dance floor numbers into a gorgeous little ballad. Before you get too somber, though, there are also a couple new club-ready songs, too: “Faces” and “Clap Song.” The latter indeed includes lots of clapping. The former is maybe YYY’s most pop radio (or Tom Tom Club?) moment to date. Like It’s Blitz! proper, they’re unlikely successes.

It’s Blitz! is now out via Interscope. The Deluxe Edition also includes acoustic versions of “Soft Shock,” “Skeletons,” and “Little Shadow.”

  1. why are “faces” and “clap song” not on the Amazon deluxe mp3 download?

Did anyone else notice that the melody to “Heads will Roll” is EXACTLY the same melody as PiL’s “This is Not a love Song?”

  3. as if there weren’t any more reasons to go out and buy this record

  4. it's blitz  |   Posted on Mar 11th, 2009

This album is the most generic ready made for radio album I’ve heard in ages. Almost sounds like the band didn’t even write these songs. SUXXXX

  5. I cant wait until the bonus tracks are available. I’m loving this album so much. “Dull Life” is the ballz

  6. They sound like the fucking TING TINGS on this album, and on these tracks as well. Could they get any more uninspired / derivative with their material?

It really doesn’t take much to please people buying music huh? This sounds like filler stuff…it’s a shame stuff like this gets so much hype when really talented bands get un-noticed…

  8. it’s that time of the month – you know what i’m referring to, when asshole music junkies come out of the woodwork to tell everyone how generic and unoriginal a new and generally well-liked album is, and by way of this to condemn it outright… there is indeed a lot of shitty shitty music out there, i don’t understand the need to take music, perhaps not wholly original in its content but nonetheless rewarding, and bitch about it and throw it on the trash heap, just you know, don’t fucking comment on it unless it’s something so glaringly obviously awfully unoriginal that you feel the need to stop jerking yourself off in the mirror for five minutes and add your two cents

It’s Blitz actually sounds really inspired to me! It’s different but songs like Soft Shock, Runaway, Skeletons and Dull Life are as good as anything they’ve done!

  10. People being excited about this slop=depressed about humanity
    :(

I really hate these snobbish pricks who come down from on high to tell us lowly mortals what good music is or isn’t.
it’s really-exactly what Beatles like bands are you referring to and how are they more talented? because you listen to them?
MK- exactly what do mean by inspired? How is this album not inspired?
ugh- why is this slop? because you say so?
This is not their best album, but it is fun to listen to and has some nice tracks. All the above mentioned people who enjoy pissing on music just because it makes themselves feel good I some advice for you: Get Lost

i agree with zach. you guys are really lame. So what if there are synths? who the fuck says there can’t be sythetic sounds in great music? Some of the most amazing acts use them.

I think this album is awesome, there’s nothing depressing about it.

eh music snobs are suck dick weeds.

I wonder if some of you who love this album were part of the same lame group that shunned zero for being dancy. now it’s the fucking jam! a great song is a great song rgardless of what you sounded like before. and a great album is a great album…synth or no synth. eat it hipsters.

  15. Jesus, some of you guys take music really, really seriously. I think this is a pretty good album. I can understand why fans of their older work might not like it. Whatever. It’s just a band. It’s just an album. And it’s not like the YYYs are some huge Coldplay/U2 type band, so even if you don’t like this album, it’s not like their songs are everywhere and you can’t escape hearing them. Just chalk it up as a miss and move on. No need to shit on other people’s good time.

It’s Blitz! is officially my “grower” album of the year. It didn’t hit me until about the third or fourth listen how much I actually love it.

anything the yeah yeah yeahs do is golden in my book. it’s blitz is no exception.

I’m not trying to shit in anyone’s cereal here, but I just don’t like it nearly as much as everyone else. There are a few tracks that are fun, but overall I would consider this the YYY’s worst work to date. I’m sure I’ll get all kinds of shit for voicing a negative opinion, but that’s just how I feel.
