Is Neil Young fucking with us? I don’t think so. This low budget video is even sillier than the last one, but when it comes to the future of the American automotive industry Neil is dead serious. Fork In The Road, the rocker’s 374th LP, is a concept album about an electric car. Neil has retooled his own ’59 Lincoln Continental to run on alternative energy, and the album is an advertisement for that. As for this video, it finds Neil wearing a suit and shades, reading the Wall Street Journal in a stretch limo. He sings the song’s title (and not much else) into a cell phone. Acting!

Fork In The Road is out 4/7 on Reprise. Tracklist:

01 “When Worlds Collide”
02 “Fuel Line”
03 “Just Singing A Song”
04 “Johnny Magic”
05 “Cough Up The Bucks”
06 “Get Behind The Wheel”
07 “Off The Road”
08 “Hit The Road”
09 “Light A Candle”
10 “Fork In The Road”

A companion documentary produced by Larry Johnson will track Neil’s green road trip to Washington, DC.

I think this is tremendously entertaining. I imagine few will get past the first 20 seconds, but the non-CoughUpTheBucks bits are quite nice. And it’s a beautiful silence the last twenty seconds, not just because he has finally stopped repeating the titular phrase.

  2. does he really have 374 albums?

what person in their right mind is going to want to put that song on and listen to it more than once? like, at home, while dusting the blinds, or masturbating, or having dinner? who the fuck can stand it?

  4. Neil alternates one crappy decade for every awesome decade: 70s awesome 80s crappy 90s awesome 00s crappy. At least this means that in 2010 – 2020 Neil will be great again (and in his 70s) according to the trends.

And the melody of the part “where did all the money go…” is actually kind of nice, even though the lyrics are horrible. Could be a decent song if the lyrics were changed and that awful “cough up the bucks cough up the bucks” part was omitted.

This is great. Neil Young continues to do whatever he wants and the results are almost always fantastic.

This would be the type of thing Cobain would be doing now. Poor guy, I feel sad he’s gone. Neil is a fucking genius!

This is legitimately terrible, even with the new “On the Beach”-era musical bed.
