Speaking of French Pop, indie-ish rock group Phoenix will perform “1901” and “Lisztomania” on the 4/4 episode of Saturday Night Live. It’ll be hosted by Seth Rogen.

    really??

  2. it would be awesome if “seth rogan” were an internet-wide typo and it was really jason segel.

  3. it is a typo – it’s actually rogen. but everyone misspells it.

Yeah, because if there’s one thing we need more of, it’s Seth Rogan.

  5. You know who is behind this… Andy Samberg. That muthfucka is down.

  6. TVOTR, Fleet Foxes, Phoenix all in the same season? I seriously would not be surprised to see Animal Collective pop up near the end of the season, Mid-May.

  7. How about just letting phoenix play for 90 minutes? the comedy thing isn’t working out.

Whoa, I can say i honestly didn’t see that coming. I mean, they have a sound that could work on the snl level, pretty upbeat fun rock, but they really are under the radar for most people. Crazy. I look forward to seeing this. I mean, Phoenix dont even get radio play, and they are playing SNL. I can’t believe I’m saying this in a year that starts with a 2, but… I respect what SNL is doing… I would think this puts them on track for a Grizzly Bear performance sometime soon, they are from NY so they should fit in. oh, and BOOK BEIRUT!

    right on.

  10. Aw, I’m disappointed. I was expecting this article to be about Joaquin Phoenix launching his rap career on SNL.

    Still Phoenix is good.

    • I CAN’T WAIT!!!!!!!
“my names joaquin and i’m here to get higher
phoenix my name but i ain’t on fire
unless you talking sex cuz you know its on fire
call the fire department cuz my dick on fire,
      peace.”
      -potential hit.

hope they book animal collective and grizzly bear. That would be awesome, but would probably sound like shit given TVOTR’s sound problems. Coudl be a giant animal collective debacle

Why all the Rogen-bashing? I’m betting this is going to be a much-needed funny episode.

  13. i think the snl sound this year is getting pretty indie, and phoenix fits right in. i totally love their sound. they were pretty big a while ago and i can’t wait to see their comeback!

I am pretty sure Animal Collective is going to be the musical guest next week when Zac Efron hosts. That should be certain to blow some tween fangirls’ minds. “Getcha Head in the Game” vs. “Brother Sports” That would be a mashup for the ages…
