You were warned, you didn’t listen, and so maybe this will help Conor fans reclaim him from the Killers’ souled-out dance cover. This is the first studio listen from Oberst and his Mystic Valley Band’s new LP Outer South. We’ve had a live fix of the album’s “Nikorette“; “Slowly (Oh So Slowly)” comes with a lot more rollick and organ and down home rock, and instead of building on the glories of nicotine gum, CO’s addressing the idea of Potential and telling Dementia that “you better be good to me.” Because addressing abstract concepts in the first person is a thing you do when you are Conor Oberst. Hear it at conoroberst.com. And here’s a refresher course on the Mystic Valley tour dates:

04/09 – Omaha, NE @ Slowdown
04/10 – Denver, CO @ Ogden Theatre
04/11 – Aspen, CO @ Belly Up
04/12 – El Paso, TX @ Barnett Harley Davidson (Hands of Love & Hope Benefit)
04/13 – Albuquerque, NM @ Sunshine Theatre
04/14 – Tempe, AZ @ Marquee Theatre
04/15 – Pomona, CA @ Glass House
04/17 – Indio, CA (Coachella)
06/18 – Telluride, CO @ Telluride Bluegrass Festival

I like it. “I never learned what I understood” is a great line.

Conor Oberst is such a fag. Tell him to stop singing… or breathing. Either would be fine.

    • If it were completely acceptable and sane to say that about someone, believe me, you’d have a lot of people telling you that same thing right now. Since it’s not, I’ll opt for the red arrow…

I’ve followed him for years and typically everything he has done. I’ve watched his styles change with each band and I’m a fan of the MVB. Whatever new sounds he’s experimenting with, I usually listen wholesomely. Yet, this album is taking time to grow on me, honestly. Maybe that’s a good thing? I don’t know.
