Yesterday Jay unveiled a ton of ways for you to buy into his overwhelmingly industrious, garage rusted life: the relaunched label, the new singles series, the retrospective compilation, the surf-rocking free MP3, the deluxe club membership with all the trimmings. Which is to say nobody needs to be any more Reatarded than they are right now, and yet here we are courtesy of the one promo stream we failed to mention: this video for “DOA.” Not so long ago JR unveiled his first official video, for the great Matador Singles ’08 cut “See/Saw.” It was produced by Dell, which is an ironic development to a career built on years of scrappy and robust work off the industry grid. “DOA” comes from the same singles compilation, and the Erik Carer-directed clip is basically one minute and ten seconds of birds, crumpled paper, negative film, and a bunch of chicken scratch reminding you that being dead on arrival is no fun. Let that be a lesson.

You can buy Jay’s Matador Singles ’08 series at Matador.

Jay played a show at my school on Friday and I (probably poorly) interviewed him for the radio station. He’s a surprisingly laid back guy, and put on a great show. I’ll pass along the link once we get it uploaded.
