Because he’s so over the top, King Khan often runs the risk of overshadowing his knack for writing garage-rock stompers with his half-naked stage antics. This black and white Prichard Smith-directed “Land Of The Freak” clip looks as vintage as Khan sounds, and the man behind the microphone keeps it mellow enough that, despite the Kanye glasses, you’re able to focus on the song itself. Here and there the Shrines’ footage is intercut with Tarzan and other folks wandering the streets. There’s also some pretty intense tongue kissing, just so you know.

“Land Of The Freak” first showed on What Is?!, and can be found nowadays on the reissue of that one as well as the greatest hits collection, The Supreme Genius Of King Khan And The Shrines. It’s can also be found here:

Bonus:

What Is?! and The Supreme Genius Of King Khan And The Shrines are out via Vice.
