When we last heard “While We Were Dreaming,” it was sung by Ashley Webber, sister of Lightning Duster and McBean’s Black Mountain mate Amber Webber. As we noted then, her voice had Pink Mountaintops sounding more like Claudia Gonson-fronted Magnetic Fields than ever before (or in the three weeks since). This time Stephen McBean handles pulling a heart from a chest and smashing it until it bleeds. The visuals are lo-fi: McBean’s armed with his guitar and a mic, trees and other woodsy imagery are superimposed. The results? The song sounds more like the Byrds than it did before.

And don’t forget about “Vampire.”

I liked this song better the first time when it was called “Mr. Tambourine Man” by Bob Dylan.
