You remember when Wayne Coyne tore Win Butler a new asshole and the Arcade Fireman angrily responded. Well, in a recent interview Coyne back peddled, saying it was a joke, that he “meant it about the guys that were running their stages at a couple of festivals” and that “I like enough of their music. The idea that I’m somehow against them… I’m not!,” etc. Read it at EW.

Definitely sounds much-less-than-sincere to me. They ask him if he’d like to apologize and he says, “I would” ? yet never does. Plus, as Pitchfork very accurately points out, in his original smack-talkin’, Wayne says, “Whenever I’ve been around them, I’ve found that they not only treated their crew like shit, they treated the audience like shit.” That makes it quite unbelievable that Wayne truly means it when he says “I meant it about the guys that were running their stages at a couple of festivals.”
I’d also disagree with Stereogum that Win Butler “angrily responded.” His response seemed quite reasonable and respectful to me. Granted, you’re bound to be at least a bit peeved if someone says stuff like that about you, but still.
Anyways, I like enough of their music.

c’mon..its no secret that Win Butler can be abit intense (dickish)
I’ve seen The Arcade Fire twice and Win seemed a bit pretentious both times. I haven’t ever met him personally, but I could see him being a bit “dickish” if you just went up and tried to talk to him.
I’ve also seen the Flaming Lips 4 times, and he is always so happy, energetic, and fun to the crowd. I’ve met Wayne a couple times and he is very personable. Always willing to talk to fans and give autographs and such. Just a really nice guy!
I’m sure Wayne was just speaking the truth from his heart when he said that shit before, and he had to try and backpeddle for “PR” purposes.
I think it would be awesome if bands were all willing to speak the truth about one another as people and not just artists. Then we would know what kind of people they really are.
Disappointing. I would’ve loved to see Wayne Coyne tear Butler another new one.

Kings of Leon will be the new U2
Flaming Lips will be the new Band
Beck will be the new Bob Dylan.
Win Butler will be kindof dickish.
