Iron & Wine’s Around The Well collection came out yesterday, but instead of playing something from it on Fallon, Sam Beam, his sister Sarah, and pianist did a new track, “Godless Brother In Love.” It has the same sort of pathos as the recently unearthed “Homeward These Shoes,” but instead of disappearing after a minute, it builds into something bigger. (It’s interesting seeing the mellow, spacious song bookmarked by Fallon, someone seemingly afraid of silence.) Sticking to the “love” theme (and digging into the Around The Well track list), they also tackled New Order’s “Love Vigilantes” during rehearsals.

Around The Well is out via Sub Pop. “Godless” isn’t on it, but “Love Vigilantes” is. As is this:

this was not very good. if it appears on his new album sometime i hope it’s in a very different arrangement.
This is AMAZING. This is Sam at his best.
it’s good to see the Beam clan performing though. didn’t sam say that was his other sister on the piano as well?
I didn’t know Zach Galifinakis was such a good musician.
boring i changed the channel
Snarky comment.
I was behind him on this taping and it was incredible. I’m glad to see he played something more mellow. I got to meet him after the show on the street and he is awesome. Great stuff.
something MORE MELLOW? Are you kidding me? If he was any more mellow, he’d be running his finger up and down a single string on his guitar while whispering nursery rhymes.
