The conceit underlying Mastodon’s new clip for Crack The Skye‘s multi-sectional epic “Oblivion” isn’t as mythological, mystical, or straight LOST-y as past stabs, but by now you should know these dudes are always gonna go for something a little beyond the ordinary with their vids. And since everybody’s all about Space, The Final Frontier this summer, Mastodon are totally in space! And it’s a little silly. You’ve never seen this many tattoos or bigger earrings in zero-gravity. Judging by this sequence of poor decisions and cosmic freakouts, NASA needs to never send a metal band to repair a space station again.
Crack The Skye is out.

Awesome song. If only we could actually get Creed launched in to orbit.
I like Mastodon’s videos. They’re one of the few bands that uses music videos as an excuse to make short films anymore.
Ahh, that freaky Chairlift/Kanye video effect is back…but used more purposefully and creatively.
