Aside from being pooped on, the Beasties made noise down at Bonnaroo when they invited Nas onstage to debut “Too Many Rappers” from their forthcoming “bizarre” LP. The gray-flecked MCs have revealed some more details concerning the awesomely titled Hot Sauce Committee Pt. 1: It’s out 9/15 via Capitol, it’s got 17 tracks, and one of them (“Don’t Play No Game That I Can’t Win”) features the burgeoning queen of collabos, Santigold. Also there’s a track called “Funky Donkey,” for lovers of funky monkeys and funky bosses. Stack this release with the systematic reissuing of their entire discography (Hello Nasty is next) and their tear headlining all the festivals, and dudes are about to get so paid. That’s the album art, here’s the tracklist:

01 “Tadlock’s Glasses
02 “B-Boys In The Cut
03 “Make Some Noise
04 “Nonstop Disco Powerpack
05 “OK”
06 “Too Many Rappers” (Feat. NAS)
07 “Say It”
08 “The Bill Harper Collection”
09 “Don’t Play No Game That I Can’t Win” (Feat. Santigold)
10 “Long Burn The Fire”
11 “Bundt Cake”
12 “Funky Donkey”
13 “Lee Majors Come Again”
14 “Multilateral Nuclear Disarmament”
15 “Pop Your Balloon”
16 “Crazy Ass Shit”
17 “Here’s A Little Something For Ya”

Here’s how “Too Many Rappers” sounded down in Manchester:

If that vantage point looked appealing, you can simulate the experience when the trio headlines Lollapalooza. Or when they headline All Points West. But if standing in a massive field isn’t conducive to your hip hop immersion, the Beasties have just announced a club show at the Congress in Chicago on 8/6. Tickets go on sale to the public Friday 6/26 at 10AM Central Time at Front Gate Tickets and in-person at Site and Sound (2125 N. Milwaukee Ave.). Also, Hello Nasty is getting a 2CD/vinyl box set/multi-format reissue, as has the trio’s prior releases. That’s available 8/25.

I got to catch the Boys at the Roo and it was an amazing set. The busted through their hits as well as some of the instrumental cuts that originally appeared on Ill Communication and Check Your Head and ended up on TheInSoundFromWayOut. There were also rare gems played from their early punk days like “Egg Rain On Mojo” which ended up becoming the base for “Egg Man” on Paul’s Boutique”. I’ve seen the guys live several times including the tour where they did “Awesome I Fucking Shot That” but the night at Bonnaroo was really a treat. The crowd was huge and totally into it the whole time and you forget that they are boardering on 50.

  4. i’ve got high hopes for “nonstop disco powerpack”

  5. but can they rotate my tires while i wait?

  6. Bonnaroo show was great! Although I really didn’t like the Nas tune at all …was kind of a low point (of the show) for me.
