Digging into M83′s past, the new webOS Palm Pre smartphone ad gets its soundtrack from a section of Before The Dawn Heals Us closer “Lower Your Eyelids To Die With The Sun.” It was directed by Tarsem and features 1000+ orange-clad martial arts folks choreographed by Sun Yupeng in a large green field backed by misty mountains. Sound beautiful? It would be, if not for the saccharine voice over trying to sell you the phone. The clip was shot in HD, so maybe turn the sound down, put on your copy of Before The Dawn, and enjoy it that way. (Vangelis would also do the trick.)

Remember the song’s also been used to soundtrack inane dialog in the past.

Are we ever going to get another series of Director’s Label DVDs? I’d love to see a Tarsem edition.

Also, the song was featured prominently a couple of years ago for the explosive opening sequence of the Lakai skateboarding footwear company’s video, “Fully Flared,” which was directed by Spike Jonze. Awesome scenes, which I am sure are available on various video-sharing sites.

  4. oh anthony. even though this commercial is a lame attempt at programming the masses into thinking phones are comparable to spiritual enlightenment your music still hold as a true portal.
