Things have moved quickly, and deservedly so, for Philly singer-songwriter and supplemental Warrior on Drugs Kurt Vile. Since having his given name drop on more radars independently of his other job, circa SXSW, Vile signed to Matador Records, who trumpeted the news incredibly breathlessly. And that’s coming from a blogger. As they noted, “perhaps more than ever before in label history,” they’re psyched over locking him up and plan to release Kurt’s second full-length Childish Prodigy this fall. Today they’re offering its first MP3 with “Overnite Religion” as a five-minute case for why you should be excited. Kurt’s acoustic strums loop and lope hazily, his slackjawed, drawled, and whooped vocals creeping out of subtly psychedelic echoes, a shaker and tamborine keeping the vibe loose but intimate, and immediate. It’s some hypnotic folk stuffs — with some cosmic guitar noise at the end to keep it more than just hypnotic folk stuffs — all made to look much easier than it is.
Childish Prodigy is out 10/6 via Matador. It’ll be preceded by the “He’s All Right” 7″, in stores 9/8. The A-side comes from the album, and it’s stacked with two non-LP B-sides.

I love his last two albums, I’m excited to see if this album is a little more upbeat and electric. Apparently the Hunchback is on there, but it is already on his EP. Steller song, should have pushed that one not this one in my opinion.
Like the new track. The Hunchback is great too. Can’t wait for the new album.
