There’s Fox News, and then there’s Red Eye: the network’s program that has its production costs drawn from the stores of Rupert Murdoch, but not its sense and sensibility. It’s the only show where Fucked Up’s Pink Eye would be invited to speak his mind without retributive ridicule, let alone be extended an open invitation to correspond whenever he’d like. (Which actually happened.) As the show’s title suggests, it’s buried on Fox News’s schedule, airing in the dead of night probably because they know that’s the only time people who like Fucked Up or Andrew W.K. would think it an amusing idea to subject themselves to the viewpoints parading under that Fair & Balanced moniker.

So that’s Red Eye. How about Andrew WK? Well he’s a walking .gif factory, an able web correspondent, a show hoster, a party starter, a joy ambassador, and always capable of memorable talk show appearances. Put him on Red Eye and you have a 40 second exhibit on why the world is a better place with him in it. With or without the music.

Done.

  1. what a great great man

  2. I’d follow him to hell and back.

  3. I would rather listen to him than anyone at Fox News, regardless of subject. The guy made a song out of John McLaughlin sound bites, fer chrissakes

  4. Gold. A+

    I love that show.

  6. insomniac  |   Posted on Jul 16th, 2009

great show. watch it every night at 3 am.

  7. Interesting how every liberal-minded person hates Fox News. If they’re so blatantly biased, why are they the most popular news network?

    • carl  |   Posted on Jul 16th, 2009

Because it is awesome. Everyone I know loves Fox News. Everyone I know is liberal.

    • Hamish  |   Posted on Jul 16th, 2009

      Because people are dicks.

    • Andrew  |   Posted on Jul 16th, 2009

Yeah! And if Transformers 2 is so popular, how can it be a terrible movie? Perfect logic.

    • FlimFlam  |   Posted on Jul 17th, 2009

It rose to power by being biased towards the average TV watcher’s opinions. People prefer things that conform with their world view.
They editorialize from the point of view of the everyman and not an educated writer with a degree in journalism’s point of view.
Its only rational that its popular.
This is the same reason people like the Daily Show. Its not funny really (the audience rarely laughs and usually just cheers in agreement) it just makes people feel good.

      Watch C-SPAN pussy.

    • There are more right wing people out there than your mind can wrap around.

because theyre pissed that NO ONE watches msnbc and cnn . . .
      literally NO ONE.
more people see leprechauns dancing around their heads each night (halluicnation) than see msnbc.
and the funny thing is the ones who see leprechauns are the same crowd that watches those shitty stations-
      i.e. severely mentally disturbed loners.

Sleeping Lesson, Fox News may have higher ratings because the liberal audience between CNN and MSNBC. There are more liberals than goose stepping Nazi Republican Conservatives. Remember the last 2 Novembers? Dumb ass.

    • coachmaddogdumbass  |   Posted on Jul 17th, 2009

What exactly are we supposed to remember about November 2007, dumbass?

      • I think he means when Democrats took over the majority in Congress while Bush was still in office. Nothing was accomplished, but (imo) it kept things from getting worse.

  9. yomomma  |   Posted on Jul 16th, 2009

Most conservative republicans aren’t nazis and don’t goose step, so yes you are right. There are more liberals than goose stepping nazi republican conservatives.

recent polls show the country is far more conservative than liberal, bitch.

    • Lakoff  |   Posted on Jul 18th, 2009

The question is, however, do they really know that they are conservative? Or are they just adhering to the label of conservative?

Also, it is important to note that these polls use only land lines and not cell phones. Most of us young ones’ don’t have landlines. We have cell phones. Thus, this poll may be measuring older generations rather than younger ones.

      http://www.americanprogress.org/issues/2009/05/pdf/political_ideology_youth.pdf

In this poll, out of people under 30, 44% recognize themselves as Liberal or Progressive, whereas Conservatives make up 27% and Moderates take up 26%. What does that mean? Not much. A single poll by itself may or may not be accurate, so it is foolish to base reality on a survey that may have methodological problems (such as not getting a fair distribution of a population) or may have been influenced by other factors, such as the social desirability bias.

  10. I want to be best friends with that guy.

  11. Shawn  |   Posted on Jul 17th, 2009

shut up about fox this, bias that, liberal that…

lets just revel in the awesomeness that is Andrew W. K.

  12. johni  |   Posted on Jul 17th, 2009

Andrew WK is the man. He is truly a wonderful person, I met him once after one show, and the guy is really inspiring.

    Godspeed, Andrew.

  13. Because the majority of Americans are conservative republicans for one. Secondly many haven’t developed a degree of critical thinking skills, they do what the bible and whom ever speaks loudest tells them to. Rupert Murdoch and his new corps are notorious for bending truths, and feeding people BS to suit their own political or other agendas. And I don’t think who ever mentioned “two Novembers” was referring to Nov. 2007. It was most likely a reference to the elections of 00′ and 04′ where H.W. was elected president not once but twice. Luckily all that is behind us, and perhaps progress is once again on the horizon for the U.S. As far as Andrew W.K. is concerned, I’ve never found his work appealing, but I have to admit he is hilarious.

  14. vschnick  |   Posted on Jul 17th, 2009

    wow he’s hilarious
he made a funny face on TV
    this is news worthy….seriously???

  15. mike  |   Posted on Jul 17th, 2009

MB, I hate to do it, but a correction is needed. HW was elected in 1988. W was “elected” in 00 and 04

    • Sorry for the mix up. I think Tard 1 and Tard 2, or Idiot Sr. and Idiot Jr. would have better sufficed, unless of course there are more two generations of them trolling around. “elected” is right tho, ha ha.

  16. Every time I scroll down to comment on Andrew W. K., I get distracted by the comments (and then even more by the scores of each) … so I don’t know what’s funnier. I do have to say, there are better things to do with my nights than watch Fox, or make a point not to watch it … Thanks guys for posting a video I would have otherwise missed.

Andrew is a unique artist who’s actual personality is a large part of his success. This is very different from the average musician on the big stage. I think people enjoy his music more because they feel like they know him, the same way we enjoy movies with actors formerly on SNL. It’s also that familiarity principle that helps American Idol winners sell so many records.

    (the appeal of fox news?)

Rationality belongs to cool observer. But, because of the stupidity of the average man, he follows not reason but faith. This naive faith requires necessary illusions and emotionally potent oversimplifications which are provided by the myth maker to keep person on course.

Its not the indoctrination is inconsistent with democracy… It is the essence of democracy.

In a totalitarian state it doesn’t matter what people think because (the state) has a gun to their head and can control what they do. But when the state looses the gun and can’t control people by force, when the people have a voice, (the state) has this problem.

People get so curious and arrogant that they won’t submit to a civil rule. Therefore, you have to control what people think. The standard way to do this is to resort to what in more honest days was called propaganda: the manufacturing of consent and necessary illusions.

~Noam Chomsky in the documentary Manufacturing Consent

    • Shawn Bradley  |   Posted on Jul 22nd, 2009

Noam Chomskys a douche and so are you. Pleaz use your cut and paste argument to explain how the roman empire did so hot after the establishment of the same religion as official that i’m sure him, and you through him, are discrediting as a ploy to mentally enslave the common man to submit to a civil rule. Faith in God makes men free not slaves, I hope one day you learn that, i sincerely do. Now what does this post have to do with wavves?

  19. This Red Eye show is under appreciated. I don’t have Fox News, but every time I hear about this show, it blows my mind by its mere existence. I would love to know the story behind the creation of it. Is there a secret genius working at Fox, or is this an elaborate, beautiful mistake?

  20. Rob S.  |   Posted on Jul 18th, 2009

Not quite as cool as GWAR’s appearance on Red Eye, which was mind-blowing in that it was the same network that ritually fellated Donald Rumsfeld giving airtime to a dude that writes songs about his wang.

As for the concern as to whether America is liberal or conservative — it’s moot. When you start attaching labels like that to what you believe, you’ve already stopped caring about what you believe. You become a mindless zombie like Olbermann or Glen Beck, shouting out whatever your party thinks is good at the time. Or even worse, you end up as a complete void of intelligent thought like Bill O where you just shout and don’t even know why. Stop giving a shit if you’re liberal or conservative. We’ve already seens the Dems toss Joe Lieberman overboad, and the Republicans did the same to Arlen Specter. Why? Because they weren’t true-believers based on the whim of the party at that one point in time. Anyone remember when Republicans were borderline Libertarians and Barry Goldwater ruled the party? Now remember how the party did an ass-backwards 180 into Reagan’s compassionate conservatism? The Dems have done the same thing too. And they’ve both switched those policies back and forth over the past few decades. Neither party represents any real ideas. They’re only point is to syphon off money into the coffers of the companies supporting them financially so the politicians can one day retire and go on the lecture circuit to make big bucks or grab a high-priced consulting job with one of those companies when they get out. If you’re a liberal, you’re an idiot. If you’re a conservative, you’re also an idiot. Start caring about what you believe in and not what your party thinks is important.
