If you take a look at the accompanying photo, you might recognize Alex Bleeker as BTW Real Estate’s bassist. What you can’t see is the Freaks’ frontman is surrounded by a couple other folks from his more well-known band: Matt Mondanile, aka Ducktails, handles drums and Martin Courtney does backing vocals and bass. The one non-Real Estater is Julian Lynch, who you might remember from his recent split 7″ with Ducktails. For all the associations, it’s a different, rootsier monster. Take a listen to the twangy, hazy day 7-minute “Summer Song > Epilogue,” which was recorded 6/22 at Silent Barn during the band’s first show. Bleeker earns his tie-dye, for sure.
Here’s another:
AB & the Freaks recently finished recording an album, which you’ll see sometime this year via Underwater Peoples. Keep watch, too, for Julian’s debut LP out 8/3 via Olde English Spelling Bee and Real Estate’s full-length sometime after that via Woodsist.

clearly your grandfathers studied talmud.
The fucking man.
Awesome song.
Congrats, Bleeker!
Oh hey!
I met you… (Bleeker) last summer or the summer before that… on Martha’s Vineyard, outside Mac Young’s house… playing an acoustic set outside. We were destroyed by mosquitos, I recall. I only had 2 dollars on me but you guys gave me a record for that and a promise that I’d play it on WVVY, which I did. Cool to see you on stereogum! Thanks for the music.
