Kevin Barnes is already road-testing new tunes because when is KB not writing new tunes, but as usual his mind and muses are moving a few gears too fast for a promo cycle still chewing on the schizophrenic pop freakouts of the excellent, if not Hissing Fauna-excellent, Skeletal Lamping LP. This new video for “Mingusings” falls very neatly inside the band’s recent arc with the help of Kevin’s brother, who turns up at all the shows wearing the black bodysuit with sequined mask and/or dressed as a satyr; here he’s the former, playing shenanigans on various scenes of everyday life in Athens, GA and later Sydney, Australia. The former because oM has roots, the latter because the opera house is very picturesque and also needed to be captured to make sure the tax write-off was well documented. Aside from going on location it’s pretty low budget, and still it’s amusing and id engaging, which is to say it’s an of Montreal production.

Skeletal Lamping is out via Polyvinyl. This is where you can see ‘em this summer:

07/24 – Oakland, CA @ Fox Theater*
07/26 – Hollywood, CA @ Hollywood Bowl$
08/07 – Chicago, IL (Lollapalooza)
08/08-08/09 – Houston, TX (Free Press Summer Fest)
08/28-29 – San Diego, CA (Street Scene 2009)
09/12-13 – Morrison, CO (Monolith Festival)
* w/ Jon Brion
$ w/ Grace Jones, Dengue Fever

Of Montreal’s psychedelic pop pushes listener
Of Montreal, the brainchild of Ohio native Kevin Barnes, has forged major artistic ground on its eleventh album, Paralytic Stalks, departing from the pop song format, funk influence and erotic content that has become synonymous with the band.

    David Barnes is such a great performer and artist, and this is so joyful!
    I think parts of this are from a documentary that’s being made about them.
