This summer Travis Egedy, aka Denver one-man dance factory Pictureplane, has been steadily releasing samples of his basically dud-free Dark Rift. We’ve already offered up listens to “Goth Star,” “Transparent Now (Thin Veil),” “Cyclical Cyclical (Atlantis),” and a viewing of the lo-tech skeleton-masked video for “Trance Doll.” Time to work the collection’s spacious, interstellar-dusted title track into heavy rotation.

  1. Really enjoying this record. Super fun, summertime dance stuff, but weird.

Oh look, he’s hugging a Beyonce standee. He so clever I could just die.

No, I’m just trying to beat down an unjustified hype storm before it infects publications I respect.

Am I wrong? This is the fourth or fifth hype post about this a-hole, drummed up just to give away yet ANOTHER mp3 from his lousy album. I’m not asking for much, but I wouldn’t hate it if Stereogum put in a little elbow grease towards finding worthy bands to cover rather than just regurgitating ever PR email that shows up in the inbox.

maybe you are the a-hole paul .
let me guess, you would rather see more posts about radiohead and MGMT right?

No, I can read about them anyplace. I said FINDING bands. As opposed to just half-assing it and taking cues from the PR mailing lists. Somebody here should spend at least an hour a day clicking around Myspace or something blindly, or using some more logical method, finding good music nobody else is writing about. Maybe Stereogum was never as risky an enterprise as my memory tells me, but now it’s just a hype dump.

  3. where can i get a beyonce thing like that? :P
    lol
