The Brooklyn trio Grooms used to be called Muggabears, but changed their name just in time to release the 10-song Rejoicer on Death By Audio’s label this fall. The energetic and everywhere lead track “Dreamsucker” is a rambling bit of noise-pop that makes good use of those DBA guitar pedals while nodding to New York old-timers Sonic Youth (and somehow Rainer Maria tapping bright-eyed shoe-gaze and the songbook of “old” Social Registry crew Icewater Scandal). The group’s fronted by guitarist/vocalist Travis Johnson and bassist/vocalist Emily Ambruso, who’re backed by the more-than-capable Marnie Stern live drummer/ex-Parts & Labor player Jim Sykes.
Rejoicer is out 10/13 via Death By Audio.

Grooms are awesome. Fantastic noise rock.
Back when they were based in Oklahoma and named The Muggabears, Austin Stephens of Evangelicals was their drummer. They’ve been ruling for years.
That song is nuts!
Dreamsucker! can’t wait for the album
A namesake band – gotta love it.
I hope to hear this on KEXP sometime soon.
So stoked about this record. I want to hear more. Now.
