Shape-shifting Portland duo Panther are releasing the limited-edition Entropy 12″ at the end of the month. Technically it follows last year’s 14kt God, but as you might’ve gathered by “Love Is Sold,” Charles Salas-Humara and Joe Kelly are pushing their sounds in a different, more free-and-easy direction. In the Kari Coleman-video for the big-hooked “Birds That Move” they perform as an occasional quartet on a float flanked by synchronized swimmers until someone gets hold of a gun and the guys return to their natural state to don corpse paint and attend a friendly bonfire.

Entropy is out 9/29 via Kill Rock Stars in an edition of 500. Pre-orders come with a free “Birds” 12″ EP.

  1. Between the two songs I’ve heard so far, I’m sold on getting Entropy.

On a side note, the girls in this video shamefully reminded me of seeing Robert Palmer’s Addicted To Love video as a very young and ignorant child. Not noticing the women weren’t even playing those guitars, I thought it was so cool that Palmer had glamor girls for his back-up band.

  2. Also, my friend wants to know if that’s Don Fagen. I have no idea what anyone in Steely Dan actually looks like to know one way or the other.

Uh, you guys know Gus Van Sant co-directed this, right? That’s pretty majorly important information right there.
