Wow, even Pitchfork treated this like more of a news item than this, and gave credit where it is due for the free release of Machina 2 back in 2000. If this were any other band, like Radiohead who only gave one song away for free recently yet it was still treated like the story of the year, it would be treated like some revolutionary tactic. Hey, maybe instead we can get more random posts about Beyonce, Rhianna or Jay Z, despite the fact that his new album is awful. That would be great, thanks.

    • shut up, steve.

Sorry pal, I can make all the ridiculous comments I want. So please, go back on to Pitchfork’s site so you can let them decide what good music is because you can’t make those kind of decisions on your own, and leave me the hell alone.

        • what did i tell you? that’s two strikes. don’t make me use your full name now. and if you must, please respond with something that’s at least somewhat grounded in reality.

The comment about this story not getting the attention it deserves compared to all the attention Radiohead got for releasing one free song is grounded in reality, in MY opinion. And the fact that he was ahead of his time in releasing free music over the internet but doesn’t get any respect for that now because everybody jumped on the Billy Corgan bandwagon is also grounded in reality, in MY opinion.

Excuse me, on the “I Hate Billy Corgan” bandwagon.

The Pupkins are great and all but Billy Corgan just isn’t what he used to be. Plus, Radiohead is arguably the band on the fucking planet. So don’t be an a-hole. This article wasn’t really about Radiohead at all. The reason it’s not as big of a deal as when Radiohead did it is because every-fuckin-body has done it by now. It was a brilliant idea and Radiohead did it first. You’re just upset because they are the superior band.

Hmm… interesting. I might be ready to emerge from my self-imposed Pumpkins exile enough by then to actually bother downloading the songs with a view to listening to them in 10 years time… when I can stomach them again.
