Despite the colorful palm trees on the cover, San Francisco lo-fi psych-garage crew the Fresh & Onlys’ Grey-Eyed Girls is proving to be a great soundtrack for the shift from summer to fall. After seeing the quintet — who reference the Buzzcocks, Mekons, and Country Joe & the Fish as influences — at Todd P’s Woodsist-curated SXSW ’09 event I described them as “an autumnal Sticks & Stones.” Now that it’s actually colder out, it’s good to see an off-the-cuff remark made in 90-something degree weather sticks. You definitely got a sense of the chill via “Invisible Forces.” It continues in the icily lilting, totally vintage “Dude’s Got A Tender Heart.”
