When posting a demo of ostensible Jail La La track “Over The Phone” I referred to Dee Dee, aka Dum Dum Girls, as a “nostalgic one-woman girl-group.” It wasn’t the first time I’ve said something to that effect: There’s a dusky romanticism woven through much of DDG’s J&MC-on-Ronettes bedroom pop. For instance, this cover of the Everly Brothers-popularized classic “Let It Be Me,” a B-Side from the limited-edition HoZac 7″ available on her forthcoming Blissed Out cassette, collides perfectly with “It Only Takes One Nite” and “Blank Girl,” her duet with husband/Zoo Music partner Brandon Welchez. Ergo, it also makes sense she’s playing with Crocodiles along with fellow Californians Ganglians, No Age, and Best Coast, among others, at the forthcoming Art Fag Fest. More on that while you bless the day you found whoever it is that’s keeping you from being lonely.
Blissed Out is out soon via Art Fag. And, exciting news for folks in the San Diego area: The first ever Art Fag Fest, organized by Art Fag Recordings and Tim Mays of the Casbah, takes place 11/27 in San Diego, CA at the San Diego Woman’s Club (2557 Third Avenue). It’s all ages. Tickets go on sale this Friday (9/25) at casbahmusic.com. The lineup: No Age, Crocodiles, Dum Dum Girls, Best Coast, Ganglians, Grass Widow, Ty Segall.

Wish she had toned down the noise on this song, but I’m anxious to hear Blissed Out anyway.
whoa look like a sick concert…wish I lived in San Diego or Los Angeles.
asking dum dum girls to tone down the noise is like asking mika to tone down the gay
..which is a good thing, right? How much is this fest????
a gal costa album? ha!
