Piper and Skylar (and live member Cody) make up the dreamy, peace-loving Los Angeles fuzz-pop band Pearl Harbor. They have a four-song 12″ forthcoming on Mexican Summer, the label that also recently brought you releases by the similarly sandy Washed Out, Real Estate, etc. That’s actually a nice place to start: Think about Washed Out’s hazier ambiance combined with Real Estate’s margarita-sipping Galaxie 500-isms. Or, take a listen to the collection’s second track “Luv Goon.” It opens with warm arpeggios and a tinny drum machine: When the vocals and a slippery guitar enter the picture, the bedroom’s transformed into a wave pool.
The Something About the Chaparrals 12″ will be out in October via Mexican Summer. You can get the digital download now, courtesy of the same label. They’re playing 10/02 at Che Cafe in San Diego with Dum Dum Girls and Best Coast. Before then, familiarize with more sounds at MySpace.

I woke up angry this morning but after hearing this lovely song, I feel better.
I saw Pearl Harbor open for Best Coast in San Diego. They were better then Best Coast.
Strange that this is getting any real attention. The vocals and rhythm guitar on the chorus are great and make the song listenable. But the meandering, sloppy guitar and bass lines are not tight and the vocals sound flat and straight-up bored during the verses. Way uninspiring. Maybe they’re better live.
their guitar player is 14! so crazy!
