Michael Jackson is dead. But the dream lives on! The dream being finding ways to cash in on a body that essentially checked out long before this year. Depending on who you ask, Jacko was either on the verge of a massive comeback or an incapacitated zombie clown floating through life on a demerol carpet. But this much is certain: There were going to be comeback shows, and people were going to pay all the money to see them. Since that won’t happen, the new plan is to do a limited-run screening of a documentary incorporating footage from the stage show’s rehearsals and a companion album with demos and this wholesome and return-to-formish smooth new love song, the title track to the film titled Michael Jackson’s This Is It. (The Jackson brothers are on backing vocals.) This is it:
The Michael Jackson’s This Is It documentary opens 10/28 for a limited two-week run, and its companion album is out on CD 10/27, and vinyl 11/10, via Sony. It features demo recordings, “songs that inspired the film,” and two versions of “This Is It.” Help the Jackson estate sort its financial drama by buying it at michaeljackson.com.

Sounds too much like Animal Collective.
Oh,they’re in the club…This sounds very posthumous and glued together with no thought by the way…
“…incapacitated zombie clown floating through life on demerol carpet”
Hilarious.
I personally found that comment to be disgusting and in bad taste. He’s dead and he did a lot more for music than 98% of the bands this site covers. Amrit could have worded it a lot more nicely without running away from the fact that he was severely troubled and had an overwhelming drug problem.
agreed and the entire post has a negative bias from the start by saying m.j. “checked out long before this year.” hey amrit, how’d you like it if whenever someone spoke about you after you died, they concentrated on how shitastic your music taste and writing skills were?
Em, I don’t think he would care as, a) he would be dead and b) the person sad ‘shitastic’.
zing.
you can’t even spell “said” correctly.
zing.
It’s called a typo. Plus why are you defending a sex offender?
alleged.
C’mon Jen, I know it’s Monday but you don’t have to be so uptight? He’s gone and laying there next to Walt Disney. It’s the best time to goof on him.
he sure coulda used all you douchers support from about 1995-2009
One part of me wants to say this is the greatest song I have ever heard, but another part wants to say it is so terrible and anyone who likes it should be tortured. I guess that’s what makes me so good at commenting – I just take both sides so I don’t have to scroll through all the bickering of you annoying know-it-alls who go to shows and talk throughout and are more interested in the scene that “music.”
Meh, if he wanted me to be able to just enjoy the music and look past the fact that he had inexplicably turned into a white person, had no nose, and probably touched kids, the song could’ve used more bass.
This doesn’t sound like the Kenny Loggins song.
Amrit, I found this to be one of the most mean-spirited and heartless posts by a human being ever! How could I have ever dated such an uncaring music blogger?? Consider this me breaking up with you!
We get it you didn’t like this post. Move on!
What’s interesting is that the post was originally written under the name “Amrit’s girlfriend” so the comment would actually make sense. Just to clear this up, I’m not dating Amrit. He or Stereogum changed the author of this post and another to “brad_ford.”
Fuck! This song is so much better than every piece of music that came out this year, except for Phoenix.
Three word review:
“This is shit.”
Best post about jackson yet!
amrit doesn’t have to be unbiased. it’s a fucking music blog.
If only he played guitar…
Could do without the finger snaps. Those make it sound a little fey…
