The Death Cab cutie has stopped at nothing in paving his way into Hollywood for this silver screen debut. He wrote a song for that vampire movie. He even married an actress! Very method. Gibbard’s time has finally come, playing one of the hideous men briefly interviewed by Sarah Quinn (two “n”s) in John Krasinski’s big screen adaptation of David Foster Wallace’s short-story collection Brief Interviews With Hideous Men. We saw him making the rounds at Sundance, but now we get to watch him work it out in front of a camera with this excerpt of his performance in the film. As far as lead singers go, he does a pretty OK job! Watching it I’m reminded of the old show biz maxim, “Acting is all in the hands.” Which actually isn’t an old show biz maxim, I just made it up. But if it were true, Ben would win all the awards. His hands are a great actor.
Brief Interviews With Hideous Men also stars Will Arnett and Will Forte, so that is good.

I saw this movie last night and it was pretty awful.
Schnectady,NY? I was all jerked and mind fucked out by the last third of it…but nonetheless I left with a strong feeling of catharsis leaving the theater…neil youngs “country girl, whisky boot hill was playing in my head…it was halloween night outside…i actually saw Catherine Keener some months earlier maybe filming that very movie she’s great…
haha
i love him, but hearing him say “climax” makes me kinda queasy.
Yeah he said it a bunch too many times. Not so cute.
reading that quickly i was expecting sara quin
so aggravating that this has been pushed back so many times, great book; really looking forward to what krasinski did with this.
From the trailer, and this clip it looks like Jim has butchered this amazing book. The trailer makes it look like it’s a Romantic Comedy. And what’s up with the main character being the interviewer? In the book you don’t even know what the interviewer is asking, let alone know who they are. I had high hopes, but it looks like this is going to be disappointing.
This is the worst thing I saw this year. Just painful!
The acting is very reminiscent of the Big Chill, no?
Ben doesn’t need to be good at acting, he’s an amazing musician. ‘Nuff said.
