As reported via the Outsiders a few months ago, goth-inflected San Diego duo Blessure Grave did a split 12″ with Crocodiles and Cold Cave (amid a zillion other releases). If you wanted a tighter aesthetic triangle, though, you’d do well to put them opposite Cold Cave again, then toss Former Ghosts into the mix. Or, looking backwards, as I said then:

Think Death In June, Sex Gang Children, Psychic TV. These are all groups that could be linked to Cold Cave, too, but Wesley Eisold inserts more OMD and then the “transgressive” lit of Peter Sotos, Dennis Cooper, etc. Much like Cold Cave’s interest in (and connection to) Prurient and other noisy fare, Blessure Grave mention old timers Discharge and TSOL and do a cover of “City Lights,” by one of my early (and all-time) favorites, the Shadow Ring…

You should be able to pick out a lot of that in this appropriately dramatic and insular Adam Grabarnick-directed video for a song from the forthcoming Judged By 12, Carried By 6 LP. Dig through the rubble.

Grabarnick Notes:

Blessure Grave’s low-fi approach allowed me to indulge in my recent
nostalgia towards the first generation of digital video.

Judged By 12, Carried By 6 is out in December via Release The Bats. BG has a few upcoming dates with Entertainment, a group from Georgia you should also check out:

I thought that was Pete Wentz and Ashlee Simpson.

  2. weird seeing an article about them that doesn’t mention preorder scams or selling the eqiupment of people you shared a practice space with!

It was not a scam. They were simply overwhelmed. They talked about it in an interview I did with them.

Also good to see Entertainment getting a mention, they’re locals and good friends.

  4. that interview was pretty hard to understand.

  5. also, what’s up with posting show dates that already happened?

    Chano and Raina,
Very nice work, very original, however I’m interested in why you chose this track? I loved “Take it to your Grave”. You remind me so much of the New Wave movement of the eighties and you sound better. The proper use of echo and the low tech bass is a bonus, your vocals remind me of Jim Morrison, perhaps this is why I love the Grave so much.
Ray compliments you well and she is a perfect octive above but my advice would be to give her more echo and perhaps raise the mic volume just a tad so that she equals your vocal line. I would love to work out some guitar stuff for you just to enhance some of the dead space.
Let me know here in Newmarket NH and perhaps our mutual friend Hank at Disey Land can put some shit together for you. I am So Fucking Proud of You Both, I am so impressed with your ability and humility. No one Loves you guys more……………………..Nucsol Out……………………….
