Good news: new Spoon album! The band’s typically terrific LP, Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga, came out two years ago, which is a long time to wait for typically terrific LPs. Britt stopped the gap with the Got Nuffin EP and live debuts of new material with dramatic titles like “Is Love Forever?,” “Writing To You In Reverse,” and “Who Backs Your Money.” If you were into those turns, you’ll likely be into Transference: As P4K reports, the forthcoming Spoon album features those aforementioned tracks (some with revised titles) alongside seven more we haven’t even heard yet. Between this and Yeasayer, today’s been a strong downpayment on Q1 2010.

Transference is due 1/26 in North America via Merge and 1/25 in Europe via Anti-. If you’ve been asleep the last 13 years or so, there’s free MP3 from each of Telephono, A Series Of Sneaks, Girls Can Tell, and Kill The Moonlight at spoontheband.com to help you understand why new Spoon album news is good news. After that, have fun imagining the sounds associated with the Transference‘s tracklist:

01 “Before Destruction”
02 “Is Love Forever?”
03 “The Mystery Zone”
04 “Who Makes Your Money”
05 “Written In Reverse”
06 “I Saw The Light”
07 “Trouble Comes Running”
08 “Goodnight Laura”
09 “Out Go The Lights”
10 “Got Nuffin”
11 “Nobody Gets Me But You”

Here’s how some of those sound live, titled as they were then. (You can figure out what they’re called now, right? Right.)

Any word on Jon Brions involvement in this? Wasn’t he supposedly writing songs with Britt a few months ago for that were intended for the new Spoon album?

There Is No Jon Brion, and No Producer, This Is Spoons First Album With No Producer, All By Them Selves at Jim Eno’s Studio in Texas.

  2. Shut up, nerd. Nobody cares about Jon Brion.

    • Isn’t that a little harsh? I’d think this is the sort of environment where that question is more than appropriate. Odds are someone here knows if Jon Brion is involved. I don’t, but other people probably will. I don’t care about him. You don’t care about him. But there are people who will. And honestly, there’s a new spoon album coming out. Can’t we all just be enthusiastic for a few posts before being snarky or making a meh joke?

    • I care about Job Brion, you fail.

  3. Scott obviously cares  |   Posted on Oct 30th, 2009

I care about Jon Brion. Good producers meeting up with good bands is something someone who likes music should care about. go be a dick somewhere else

I disagree, Scott. Be a dick here. It was kind of funny.

  5. New Spoon! Jon Brion or not, this news made my day. This record completely crept up on me; I had no idea they were even recording much outside of Got Nuffin’. Now the question is, can I refrain from listening to the live tracks so that I can hear the record in full? Probably not.

    Woo! New Spoon!

  6. Can’t wait for the new Spoon! I can see 2010 now and it’s not looking so bad after all…

Btw, f*ck the Jon Brion haters.
