Austin trio Harlem opened the Emo’s show last night that found Jay Reatard getting jumped by a couple of angry (and drunken) show-goers. The guys are known for their frantic live shows, so maybe they’re to blame for getting the crowd worked up into such a froth? Who knows, but you can take a listen to the hometown heroes’ bouncy surf-garage ditty “Friendly Ghost,” the lead track from their forthcoming Matador debut Hippies. This new collection follows 2008′s Free Drugs, which makes perfect sense: Hippies are fucking cheap.

Hippies is out 4/6 via Matador. You can catch them before that at SXSW 2010.

Surely they’ll be packing it in soon. The Strange Boys do a much better job of it than they do, fad or no.

man, i loved Free Drugs;) but this track is feeling kinda flavorless… still looking forward to the 16-track (!) album.

  5. I saw this band live a few months ago and they were so much fun. I’m glad to see them doing well. They are rock’n'roll but they have much more interesting song structures and influences than lazy kids with blown out distortion and tape recorders.

  6. this song is too good

  7. I am with numo – loved Free Drugs and like what I have heard here. I guess everyone has his/her opinion – that’s what makes it all interesting.
